Glenn Howells Architects are working with the University of Birmingham to build a 450-seat concert hall which will be the most flexible performance space at a UK university.

It will be suitable for solo voice and electro-acoustic music performances through to a full symphony orchestra.

The new building will complete the red-brick semi-circle of buildings which have been the heart of the University campus since 1909.

Alongside the auditorium will be associated research, teaching and rehearsal facilities housing the Department of Music.

These include the Dome rehearsal room and new electro-acoustic music studios in which the department's international community of under- and post-graduates can work in cutting-edge facilities.
