Client
Urban Splash

Project Location
Manchester

Status
Completed
One of the UK’s most successful examples of regeneration has been developer Urban Splash’s transformation of Britannia Basin in the Castlefield area, east of Manchester city centre.

A run-down warehouse district alongside the Bridgewater Canal has been transformed into a mixed-use, live-work community, masterplanned by Glenn Howells Architects.

In 1999, the practice won an international competition to build Urban Splash’s first new build residential project fronting Britannia Basin. The brief demanded a tight budget and innovative construction. The building won many awards and is Urban Splash’s head office.

In 2001, Glenn Howells Architects were asked to provide a masterplan for two further phases and to design a residential building, Burton Place which provides a diverse range of 1,2 and 3-bedroom apartments for sale, with commercial units at ground floor.
