Sandeep Shambi, Adam Desborough and Fraser Godfrey represented GHA at the BCO Annual Conference from the 5th to the 7th June.
GHA was delighted to be a Silver sponsor for this year’s event which in addition to the site tours, saw speakers including Dominic Schroeder, Her Majesty’s Ambassador to Denmark, Anne Skovbro from By & Havn, Bjarke Ingels from BIG and a Brexit discussion featuring Lord Hague of Richmond, Member of the House of Lords, and Guy Verhofstadt from the European Parliament.
Studio Director Sandeep Shambi said “This year’s BCO Conference theme of ‘Arbejdsglaede‘ (meaning joy at work) was a fitting tribute to the beautiful host city of Copenhagen. Often described as the ‘happiest people in the world’ the Danes know a thing or two about good design and it was great to see and hear about so many well designed workplaces, which are having a positive impact on staff well-being and retention.”
BCO Next Gen Member Fraser Godfrey, who was attending the conference for the first time, said “With its people-focussed itinerary, the conference provided great insight into the emerging themes and ideas informing the next generation of workplaces in the UK. Regularly voted as one of the ‘most liveable’ and ‘happiest’ cities globally, Copenhagen provided a fitting venue to explore; where strong ideas on wellbeing and sustainability have long been reflected in its urban planning and contemporary pieces of architecture. With a lively debate over the UK’s state of work-life balance with our fellow professionals, we came away with greater confidence in the role architecture and well-designed workplaces have to play in improving staff wellbeing and productivity. We left Copenhagen with a new found appreciation for ‘Arbejdsglaede’.”
