2019 RIBA Regional Awards
March 19, 2019We are delighted that two GHA projects have been shortlisted in the 2019 RIBA Regional Awards.
Urbanest Vauxhall has been shortlisted in the London region. The project is the first brick-clad building over 90 metres tall in the UK and innovative methods of design and construction were developed in order to deliver the project on its constrained site. This included reengineering and redesigning traditional precast concrete panels with punch windows which were too heavy, creating a lightweight panel system using an aluminium unitised curtain walling system with brickwork piers attached separately.
The Westgate shopping centre in Oxford, which includes the GHA-designed John Lewis, has been shortlisted in the South region. Designed to revitalise the Westgate Shopping Centre, the wider masterplan was designed by BDP and consists of a series of individual urban blocks, knitted together by a series of public spaces and urban fabric, allowing the shopping centre to operate as a single entity. GHA designed the John Lewis department store which forms the key retail component of the new masterplan. The project team for Westgate Oxford also included Allies and Morrison, Dixon Jones, and Panter Hudspith.
Judges will visit each project in the coming weeks, with the winners announced in May.
