Martineau Galleries Rebirth
January 31, 2020New gateway masterplan into Birmingham, featuring public square and boulevard, approved for planning.
Martineau Galleries transforms this central piece of Birmingham into a sustainable, mixed-use destination. With planning consent now in place, this 7.5-acre development will unlock and reconnect this strategic location, expanding the central business district, whilst also framing some of the local landmarks including the Rotunda.
With new animated public spaces and streets, the masterplan builds on the city’s vision to become an exciting quarter for commercial headquarters, providing central city living and a thriving urban environment for visitors.
Leader of Birmingham City Council Cllr Ian Ward said: “The exciting Martineau Galleries project will support over 8,000 jobs and provide a significant boost to our city economy. It will also transform Dale End, creating a thriving new city centre neighbourhood.”
Robin Dobson, UK Director of Development and Project Management at Hammerson said, “Our plans for Martineau Galleries represent a step-change in our strategy, moving beyond pure retail, as we continue to deliver vibrant, continually evolving spaces, in and around thriving cities.”
