Printworks is conceived as a model for addressing London’s affordable homes crisis. The nine-storey regeneration project was developed by GHA in conjunction with English Partnerships, the Homes and Communities Agency, the ODPM and the GLA as part of the London Wide Initiative.
164 units – 35% affordable, 65% for private sale – are provided above ground floor offices and behind an aluminium façade system. The block is built to Lifetime Homes standards with 10% of the units being wheelchair accessible. A tenure-blind approach to design was pursued from the outset.
The scheme places a premium on sustainability with 10% of its energy supplied via photovoltaics and rainwater harvesting, greywater usage and green roofs built in.
