English National Ballet has been named the winner in the Education category of the RICS Social Impact Awards for London region.
The RICS Social Impact Awards recognise the built environment’s positive and transformational contribution to society and represent the very best initiatives.
In recognising ENB the judges said: ‘In its new East London home, ENB created space for more training studios, a fitness suite, dedicated rehearsal space for the ENB Philharmonic Orchestra, and classrooms for the ENB School. There are initiatives to encourage the community to participate in ballet or movement, or to volunteer, with lessons available for local young children. The simplistic minimal design with a human functionality makes for an effective building, innovatively encouraging transparency and inviting relationships, widening ballet’s appeal for all.’
ENB has a comprehensive community engagement programme. They hold workshops for children, youth, vulnerable adults and families – including children with special educational needs. The Company’s Engagement programme has embedded developmental programmes in the building, including, ENBYouthCo – for talented local dancers aged 14-19 years, ENBEldersCo – for those 55 and over, and its pioneering Dance for Parkinson’s programme ensuring that ballet is truly inclusive for its whole community.
