We are delighted that two GHA projects have been shortlisted in the RICS Awards 2019.
Urbanest Vauxhall has been shortlisted in the “Design through Innovation” category in the London region. The project is the first brick-clad building over 90 metres tall in the UK and innovative methods of design and construction were developed in order to deliver the project on its constrained site. This included reengineering and redesigning traditional precast concrete panels with punch windows which were too heavy, creating a lightweight panel system using an aluminium unitised curtain walling system with brickwork piers attached separately.
Cornerblock in Birmingham has been shortlisted in the “Commercial” category in the West Midlands region. The building had been vacant for many years, yet through its restoration, the design team have created a contemporary modern workspace, which has an innovative approach to energy efficiency and building performance and within a year, Cornerblock was 90% let.
Judges will visit each project in the coming months, with the winners announced in May.
